A busy week of Trademark updates
There were a surprising number of trademark fee updates this week, although most were relatively nominal updates to Madrid protocol fees.
The most substantial update comes courtesy of Qatar, which has recently adopted the GCC trademark laws. Last week, we had a preview of the updates and things have been finalized this week.

Qatar Trademark fee Updates Effective August 10th
Qatar adopts the GCC Trademarks Implementing Regulations
Qatar’s Minister of Commerce and Industry recently issued Decision No. 56 of 2023, ratifying the GCC Trademarks Law.
The Decision was published in the Qatar Official Gazette on July 9th and will take effect on August 10th. There were several deadline changes, but our focus is on fees – here’s what’s changing (All fees are in QAR):

New Zealand Trademark Fee Updates Effective August 21st
Fees for Madrid protocol applications and renewals involving New Zealand will be decreasing:
- From 63 to 55 Swiss francs for each class of goods or services when designating New Zealand in an international application or subsequently;
- From 126 to 109 Swiss francs for each class of goods or services when renewing an international registration in which New Zealand has been designated.
Norway Trademark Cost Updates Effective August 21st
Fees for Madrid protocol applications and renewals involving Norway will be decreasing:
- From 280 to 248 Swiss francs for one class of goods or services and from 72 to 64 Swiss francs for each additional class when designating Norway in an international application or subsequently.
- From 251 to 222 Swiss francs for one class of goods or services and from 97 to 86 Swiss francs for each additional class when renewing an international registration in which Norway has been designated.
New Cabo Verde Madrid Fees Effective September 26th
Fees for Madrid protocol applications and renewals involving Cabo Verde are being implemented effective September 26th. Fees will be:
- 169 Swiss francs for one class of goods or services and 62 Swiss francs for each additional class when designating Cabo Verde in an international application or subsequently;
- 86 Swiss francs for each class of goods or services when renewing an international registration in which Cabo Verde has been designated.
