Death by a thousand small patent fee updates
Several patent fee updates were announced this week, but nothing will break your budget. Most were inflation adjustments for PCT searches. You can find the full guide here: PCT Applicant Guide.
Except for Mongolia and the UK, all fee updates take effect on September 1.

EAPO PCT Patent Fee Updates Effective September 1
Updates for the Eurasian Patent Organization (EAPO) are in the PCT Applicant Guide in Annex D – International Searching Authority.
The Search Fee (PCT Rule 16)
- Searches in Russian will decrease from EUR 109 to EUR 98 and USD 115 to 100 USD.
- Searches carried out in English from EUR 485 to EUR 434 and USD 512 to USD 447.
EP PCT Patent Cost Updates Effective September 1
Updates for the European Patent Organization (EPO) are in the PCT Applicant Guide in Annex D – International Searching Authority.
The Search Fee (PCT Rule 16)
- Payments in Japanese Yen will increase from JPY 251,100 to JPY 266,100.
- Payments in Swedish Krona will increase from SEK 19,330 to SEK 20,760.
Mongolia PCT Patent Fee Updates Effective August 3rd
Mongolia has increased several of its national fees as shown in the PCT Applicants guide.
In Annex MN.1- Fees:
- The fee for grant increases from MNT 2,500 to MNT 25,000
- The 1st to the 5th year is now 40,000 MNT*.
- The 6th to the 10th year is now 60,000 MNT*.
- The 11th to the 15th year increases from MNT 40,000 to MNT 80,000.
- The 16th to the 20th year increases from MNT 50,000 to MNT 120,000.
- The surcharge for late payment of fees changes from 100% of the fee to a flat MNT 30,000.
* Mongolia has consolidated the number of payments due between years 1 and 10 from 3 to 2.
Russian Federation PCT Patent Cost Updates Effective September 1
Updates for the Russian Federation are in the PCT Applicant Guide in Annex D – International Searching Authority.
The Search Fee (PCT Rule 16)
- Fees for searches conducted in Russian
- Will decrease from EUR 103 to EUR 92 when paid in EUR.
- Will decrease from USD 109 to USD 95 when paid in USD.
- Fees for searches conducted in English
- Will decrease from EUR 485 to EUR 434 when paid in EUR.
- Will decrease from USD 512 to USD 447 when paid in USD.
Sweden PCT Patent Fee Updates Effective September 1
Updates for Sweden are in the PCT Applicant Guide in Annex D – International Searching Authority.
The Search Fee (PCT Rule 16)
- Payments in Swedish Krona will increase from SEK 19,330 to SEK 20,760.
United Kingdom patent fee Updates Effective July 31
Updates for the United Kingdom are in the PCT Applicant Guide in the Requirements For Entry Into the National Phase
Substantive Examination Fee
- Can now be requested electronically with a discount of GBP 30 (making it GBP 100).
