OAPI JOINS THE GENEVA ACT OF THE LISBON AGREEMENT

The Geneva Act will enter into force concerning OAPI and its member states on March 15, 2023.

What is the Lisbon Agreement, you ask? It provides a (WIPO managed) solution for the Registration of Appellations of Origin (AOs) and Geographical Indications (GIs) through a single registration procedure and one set of fees.

Ever drink Champagne or Cognac or eat Roquefort (smelly) cheese? Those are all covered by the agreement.

FEE UPDATES

Turkey Fee Updates – Effective January 1: On December 31, the Turkish PTO published (substantial) official fee increases for patents, trademarks, utility models, and designs, effective January 1st. Changes were also made to the pricing structure for TM classes.

  • The official fee for a patent or utility model application increased to 160 TRY from 75 TRY.

  • The official filing fee for a trademark application increased to 760 TRY from 380 TRY.
