US PATENT GRANTS AT 4 YEAR LOW
IFI CLAIMS released its annual report on global patent activity this week.
Unsurprisingly, COVID and USPTO backlogs have impacted patent growth,
with US patent grants at record lows.
Fortunately, US applications in 2022 rebounded to record levels, painting an
optimistic picture for the future.

EASTERN IP OWNERSHIP
IFI CLAIMS also highlighted the increasing dominance of Asia across the globe.
Samsung received the most patents globally, taking the title from IBM, which had held the #1 position since 1993.
As of Jan 1, Japanese companies own more than 1/3 of patent families globally, followed by Chinese companies at 25% and US companies at 16%.
