Hong Kong has announced a decrease in design fees to “promote the further development of intellectual property trading,” contingent upon the completion of the proper legislative procedures. The new fees are expected to take effect on March 1.

Hong Kong Design Fee Updates
Application Fees
- The electronic filing fee for one design not forming a set of articles will decrease from 785 HKD to 235 HKD.
- The electronic filing fee for one design for one set of articles will decrease from 1,570 HKD to 470 HKD.
Renewal Fees
- Renewal of the 1st 5-year extension will decrease from 790 HKD to 475 HKD
- Renewal of the 2nd 5-year extension will decrease from 1,200 HKD to 835 HKD
- Renewal of the 3rd 5-year extension will decrease from 1,760 HKD to 1,410 HKD
- Renewal of the 4th 5-year extension will decrease from 2,690 HKD to 2,420 HKD
- Late payment of the renewal fee will decrease from 490 HKD to 390 HKD
