After your European patent is allowed, you can choose to request a Unitary Patent. These forecasts can be Saved, Emailed, and/or Exported for later use or distribution to team members or clients to review.
To create a Unitary forecast, we need to enter our application details, so, let’s start with an application with 10 total claims, 2 independent claims, and 30 pages.
- From your Homepage at the top under Create New Forecast, click the ” Patent ” button. This will take you directly to the Patent Forecast Request screen.

- Select your Starting Point of “European Patent Organisation (EPO)” from the Patent Forecast Request screen. You can use type-ahead to narrow the list, and either use the arrow keys to select your selection and hit the enter key, or just type in EPO to select it.
- Note: The Estimate Validation/Unitary Costs and Include Unitary Patent toggle button must be turned on for all necessary fees required for an EP Unitary Forecast to be included.
- With the Unitary Patent, all fees are paid to the EPO, so there is no need to add other countries.
- Since the application has already been filed and examination completed, you don’t need to include the application, examination, or prosecution costs.
- You will be interested in the costs associated with the granting process, so the Allowance and Grant Costs should be enabled under the settings. The Maintenance Costs will also need to be enabled to see the long-term maintenance costs.
- Under the Application Details tab, enter 10 for Total Claims, 2 for Independent Claims, and 30 for pages.
- Translation Optimizer Tab – we can put in the number of pages of claims that we need for translation. For this example, we can set it to 10 pages.
- We can now create the forecast.
