Here are a few of the most frequent questions our support team receives about the Prokurio Platform.
Q. What is the “Starting Point”?
A. When you enter countries into the forecast request screen, Prokurio evaluates the countries and where they have been entered to determine what types of forecast scenarios are available and also to configure the screen options.
The “Starting Point” is the first country evaluated. Once the Starting Point has been evaluated, the system looks at the additional countries to finalize its analysis. In many situations, the Starting Point will be the parent or priority country, but it can also be a family member or stand-alone matter, depending on your forecasting needs.
Below are common forecasting scenarios and how the Starting Point is used:
- Forecast for an individual country – only enter a value in the Starting Point
- PCT application forecast – enter WIPO in the starting point and select the proper receiving office and search authority
- PCT National Stage Entry forecast– use the dedicated National Stage Entry button and enter your national stage entry countries, or use the Patent button and enter WIPO in the starting point and select your national stage countries.
- Direct National Filing forecast – enter your originating country in the Starting Point and the direct filing countries in the additional countries dropdown. You can exclude the costs for the original filing using the toggle on the right.
Q. What exchange rate do you use?
A. We have an integration with a commercial exchange rate provider and receive market rates once a day. Since most foreign associates charge a premium for currency conversion, we have a default premium of 6% added to forecasts. You can modify this premium in the forecast setup. You can also enter your own FX rates if desired.
Q. How do I include examination costs in the National Stage Entry section for countries that require examination fees be paid at time of entry?
A. By default, we include the examination fees in the National Stage Entry section for countries that require examination fees to be paid at the time of entry. Examples of this include the United States, EPO, and the EAPO. When doing direct national filings, the examination costs are in the examination section if they can be done later.
